New stuff!

Hey everyone!

We’ve got a holiday gift for you all: A new stable build! The 0.7 series (code name: Blue Yoshi) is sporting lots of new stuff including performance fixes, toolbar button support in Mac OS X, and LAN sync. LAN sync lets you transfer files between computers on your local network, which results in some ridiculously fast syncing. I’m sure those of you out there who manage several computers in one location will love this. :)

As always, we’ll update all of your Dropboxes to the latest stable build in phases, so don’t worry if you haven’t been upgraded yet. If you’re impatient, you can go ahead and download the build now.

We were also recently chosen for a 2009 Editors’ Choice Award by Macworld! These awards (or Eddys) are given to the best Mac products of the past year. We’re really flattered to receive this award, but we have you, our users, to thank for it. Here’s to hoping you all have an awesome holiday season. Happy syncin’!

  • I'd love it if you guys utilized categories on your blog more. I was looking for a page which listed the dropbox updates (a development blog) and I didn't see one. A cool option would be to have a category for "Program Updates" (or something like that) where the posts about dropobox improvement like Lan Sync could be found. Right now it just looks like there is one category: Beta. Anyhow, thanks for a super program.

    Thank you so much for the Lan Sync feature. Not everytime I am at home my laptops don't have to sync over my internet connection. It's much faster now :-)

    check out the finder and there should be a new dropbox button present :-). if you can't find it, control+click on the finder toolbar and choose 'customize toolbar' and you should see a dropbox button there :-)

    Great to hear, though i don't understand why it takes so long to make selective sync? Why haven't you released this?
    I know many people who won't upgrade their dropbox from 2GB, because they have two machines. A computer with a big disk, so they can have all their photos aso. and a small notebook with a small disk where they want to sync their files but don't have enough space for their Photos directory. :-(

    The Nautilus shell piece does not change everytime the client changes. The linux daemon though is here:

    For an error free install on Linux, first make sure Dropbox is stopped by choosing "Stop Dropbox" from the tray icon menu. Then run the following commands in your home directory:

    $ rm -r .dropbox-dist/
    $ tar xzf dropbox-lnx.x86-0.7.82.tar.gz # or x86_64
