Yet another iPhone post ;)

Posted by Jon Ying on October 20, 2009

I’m not the kind of guy that likes prefacing an announcement with a wall of text, so let’s cut to the chase:

Big announcement:
the iPhone app is now available for 3.0! Go get it

Other stuff: We initially opted for 3.1 because API methods related to saving videos were not available on 3.0. This meant that videos taken within the app would be permanently lost in the event of a flaky/slow internet connection. This happened to us enough in testing that we felt it wasn’t a risk we wanted to expose to our users.

That said, Will, the maestro of our iPhone app, deftly crafted a solution for this problem. The result is what you see in the app store today! Will also says that there will be plenty of bug fixes to come in the future, as well as a huge feature push when 1.5 arrives. Please feel free to let us know in the forums how the app is working out for you!

PS. I know we’ve had some heartache in the past, but to those of you who rated us down for not having 3.0 support the first time around… could you maybe find it in your hearts to give us another chance? We’ve changed, we promise! This time we’ll be good!

+1 to the Android version! The port from the Linux version can't be *too* tricky, right (famous last words :)?

Seriously, though, good looking out on the listening to the iPhone users' wants & needs. Keep up the good work!!

I was already happy with 3.1 but brilliant work as usual! Here's a feature request: Can we have folders sorted on top instead of mixed in with files, at least optionally so?

Great app! I especially like the feature to email a link of a file to other (even non-dropbox)-people.

Is this also possible in the “normal” version?

Why a lot of developers THINK that exist only one cellphone arround the world?

iPhone is not at all!

Check Market Share of Apple (iPhone) x RIM (Blackberry).

http://news.cnet.com/8301-1357

You will see that you is working on wrong way!

RIM (Blackberry) have a higher Market Share!

Here is what I would like from the Dropbox iPhone app:

“Play all music files in folder,” in numeric order, via one EZ/Big button when you browse to a Dropbox folder full of music.

…and that, is all; otherwise, the Dropbox iPhone app is the most perfect piece of software ever realized by mankind in this dimension, or any other dimension.

You guys rock!! Thank you, thank you for 3.0 support! :)

Now would it be too much to ask for an option to download and store files locally?

I love this app! Even better than functionality is the fact that everytime I show it to someone, I look like a rockstar. I wanted to ask if there is someone at Dropbox who would like to speak or teach a class at our annual (quite large) real estate tech convention in Atlanta? (March 2010)

Android plx. Extremely fast growing market segment, lots of phones coming out. Pretty obvious it's going to be the de facto smart phone pretty soon. At least, that is the advice I'd give you if I were there doing my bizdev thing.

Dropbox.com Malware?!!?!

so ehm.. after about 20 confirmations in safari that I really did want to access your website I got here.

It seems like Googles SafeBrowsing thingly has tagged dropbox.com as a “malware” site… I seriously have to confirm twice on every link I try to access under the dropbox domain..

“Dropbox is to Ubuntu as eucalyptus is to koalas”

but you guys tend to the needs of Iphone users infront of android users ?

What annoys me more is the iphone app has been updated even before an android app has come out.

Great app, but could you please include a way to sort files. When using Dropbox it is very often the most recently changed file you want to access, so being able to sort on date modified would be great! Thanx ;=)

Eveyone is whining about Android and that the DB guys are losers for not doing it. Where is the Android App store? Where is the biggest payoff for their efforts? Where is the buzz which is important for interest? Duh!
