Instant web updates!

Posted by Danny Weinberg on August 17, 2012

We just released some new magic on the Dropbox website. Now when you make a change to a file on your computer or phone, the Dropbox website instantly updates to reflect those changes. You no longer have to hit refresh as you wait for your friend to share those super-important files or worry about getting out of sync. The latest files just automatically appear on your page. After all, every second counts!

Check it out for yourself: open up dropbox.com in two browser windows and try renaming, adding, or removing a file in one place—the change will appear immediately in the other! (If you accidentally make a change, you can always undo it)

Awesome.

Is there any plan to give developers access to this api?

Thanks

That’s a really nice little feature. Dropbox gets better and better.

Great, now go add a feature people have been requesting for 2 years now (from the votebox)
Allow selective sync to leave a unticked folder on the computer instead of removing it and leaving it only on dropbox.
So the ability to Pause a synced folder.

Why is the service update page down and why have there been no responses on the forums to the massive, global slowdown of the Dropbox service?

People are reporting the same problem from around the world, and I’m experiencing it as well, but there are no updates via social media and no responses from anyone at Dropbox.

We need to know what is going on and how soon it can be addressed. It’s causing major issues for many businesses that use the service.

Looks like a massive failure to plan. This is causing us to reevaluate how we use Dropbox which had been the backbone of our business mode.

Did this cause the horribly slow syncing we are now experiencing? Between this feature and the photo feature on the iPhone, I am sitting here in STUNNED disbelief that my dropbox is taking 10-30 minutes to resync?

Please don’t make me look to google drive as a more reliable alternative… I love dropbox!

That would be great except that I can’t login to my account and have reset the password twice this morning and still keep getting invalid email or password. Now I am locked out for too many attempts. Great! Yes, two factor authentication would be nice, but I’d settle for getting logged in with my current email and password.

Oh this is really nice! This is what happens to go to DropBox “Contact Us” link to report this issue.

This is perfect. We do all the scheduling for on club through drop box and though I’ve sent tons of invites a lot of people just wont download the program and rely on the site, and a lot of times they miss stuff because they forget to hit refresh. This should help things considerably. Thanks.

What a joke! I’ve given up trying to use dropbox to share files with my students, and now it’s in perpetual sync-mode, so I’m on the verge of abandoning it for my personal cloud storage. I’ve requested help FOUR TIMES, with no response. It’s a microcosm of the American work ethic. Nobody cares. No pride in quality. Mediocrity rules. I will drop this thing by the end of the week if I don’t get some sort of human contact. Shame. I liked it.  There are too many cloud storage options to deal with this kind of shoddy interaction.

I can’t get a hold of you pjeople my debit card was cancelled becasue of fraud and you tried to auto renew the new i think then you screwed up my folders and told me I was over.  Yeah since you downgraded me without warning!  I tried to pay you with the new debit but you refused it. you said I couldn’t up grade because I already had a pro account I was to change my period of use, but I could not do that because that page said that I couldn’t do that without a valid account.  I now find it impossible even to cancel my account!!!  F your lack of support!

IS THERE A REASON LYOU HIDE FROM EVERYONE?

You could add “unrealistic expectations and sense of entitlement of software users” to your list characteristics of mediocracy if your not paying for a pro account. If you are paying for an account then you should add “failure to effectively communicate issues and lack of taking personal responsibility of support resolution” as more proof of the mediocre.

Seriously – condemning a company as a litmus of society and giving ultimatums in a forum that have nothing to do with the support of their product will get you zero support and even less sympathy.

Have you used support channels such as the documentation on this site?

https://www.dropbox.com/help/19#category:Sharing

As far as syncing is concerned – are you running Dropbox on more than one computer/mobile device at the same time? If you delete a document on eone but the other is also logged in and set to sync then it will push the file right back.

You can select specific folders and even specific files to sync. This can be done using the web interface as well as using he task bar icon for Dropbox.

Since you don’t describe the issue you’re having beyond broad terms, indicate what your using it on (desktop running Windows 7 for example), nor outline what steps you’ve already taken to fix *your* problem – that’s the extent anyone can help. Not repelling people from wanting to help you in the first place might also improve results.

Phil

Ps

Being too prideful is just as bad as lacking pride. Humbly seeking help and genuinely appreciating someone taking the time to educate you in basic product use might yield better results

You’re being kind of an ass. The guy obviously is frustrated that he couldn’t get help he was trying to request BEFORE he posted on this site. I find it doubtful this was his first and only attempt to get help. People don’t get upset until they’ve tried and can’t reach support. In addition, he’s not the only one to site having issues reaching support. Perhaps this is why he is “broad” and doesn’t describe the issue he is having — he’s not asking for someone to solve his problem here, he’s pissed that he’s tried without avail to reach anybody. This is any normal person’s standard response when support doesn’t “support” via the normal usual methods. Every user out there will reach out to their blog site to tell others what terrible service they had. Get with the program, and don’t be such a jerk. Especially if you are working with the Dropbox team. In addition, not only do you respond once, but you continue your tirade with another post – you’re obviously taking this as a personal attack. Don’t be an ass to others, it’s unbecoming of you and your holier than thou persona.

Hi, I didn’t know where to say these but here it goes: to me dropbox is probably the most useful software, virtual or on your pc, of the last ten years. I’ve centralised my critical & documents, some photos, document’s I’m working on, and even my thoughts! I keep jotting down over my Sam. Note, or Mac (it makes no difference at all) every idea, task, etc. I’m likely to forget. And now it’s appearing in so many softwares and devices, it is just incredible. Highly, highly recommended.

Hmm… What if you could upload a file to Dropbox, change it, and save it (locally only), and yet it automatically saves your changes online? That would save me some effort.
