Dropbox for Android: now starring your photos!

Posted by Tony Grue on October 11, 2012

Just in case our announcement earlier this week wasn’t enough, we’ve got some more photos magic ready for you!

We’ve created a new photos gallery in our Dropbox Android app that puts your pictures front and center and displays them beautifully. Now it’s even easier to flip through all of the photos you’ve automatically uploaded to Dropbox and share them in a snap! And since our Camera Upload feature lets you gather all your photos in one spot, you’ll even see pictures you’ve taken with other cameras. Check it out:

With this update, all of your awesome memories are just a tap away on your Android phone and easier to view, browse, and share. So, go download the latest version of Dropbox for Android and enjoy!

are we ever going to get a ‘sort by’ option in the android app? having to go through every file in my dropbox folders sorted by file name only blows.

When are we going to be able to get a SHARE link without initiating file downloads to our mobile devices? I had to delete DB because it was chewing up all my data plan.

Is the app syncing now, or just dumping everything into Dropbox? Not every picture is worth keeping and it doesn’t make any sense to have to delete those in multiple places.

Apparently this gallery is showing not only the pictures in the “Camera Uploads” folder but also the pictures in the android gallery, because I see every photo twice.

Question, I’m using a Samsung Galaxy S3 and I’m trying to download pics from the dropbox app into my gallery using the ‘share’ function. It looks as though it transfers the photo, then it shows the photo in the Gallery app, but it doesn’t seem to actually save it to my phone anywhere. So how do I actually save a photo to my phone from a dropbox folder??

Please update the ios version, that would be great!

I found after deleting my android picture gallery that the culprit was a hidden subfolder in the camara uplaods folder, namely a .picasaoriginals folder. Naturally this gave the impression that almost all photo’s where double.
Maybe the dropbox gallery should exclude hidden subfolders ;-)

Come on guys, where’s the sort function? I’ve got thousands of photos named yyyy-mm-dd in ‘Camera Uploads’ and, each time I want to see the most recent set of uploaded photos, I have to spend 5 minutes scrolling down to see them. A sort ascending/descending option on filename and date uploaded would be great…

the app needs to continually check the phone for deleted pictures. I shouldn’t have to delete the pictures on the phone and within dropbox. It is not really useful without this feature

That is all fine and dandy, but I want to put some of my pictures in gallery so that I can use them for other purpose (ie, desktop or contact list). I like to have folders where I want them and labeled the way I want them. What makes sense to some, doesn’t to others. I am new to this phone and not sure I have read everything out there so I will continue my search and damn my company for switching me over to this crap phone. I miss my iphone.
