Update (September 25, 2017): iOS 11 is now available, and you can download the updated Dropbox app—with support for the new Files app, HEIF photos, and HEVC video—from the App Store.
iOS 11 is on its way, and we’ve been hard at work building new capabilities for our users. With Dropbox support for the new Files app, HEIF photos, and HEVC video, you’ll save time and be able to collaborate from anywhere more easily. Here’s what you can look forward to:
Access Dropbox throughout iOS
The new Files app in iOS 11 lets you browse files stored on your device and on Dropbox—all in one place. From there, you can open, edit, move, rename, upload, create folders, and download files. And if you have personal and work Dropbox accounts, you’ll be able to browse both in Files. Connecting your Dropbox account to Files extends beyond the app itself. This new integration also makes your Dropbox files available across the entire operating system. You’ll now be able to access files stored in your Dropbox account from supported third-party apps. So instead of jumping back and forth between apps, changes to Dropbox files opened in another app will automatically sync to your account.
Easily work with HEIF and HEVC
One of the most exciting features in iOS 11 is the addition of more efficient HEIF image and HEVC video formats. Since sharing is such an important part of how Dropbox helps you work with other people, we’re supporting these new formats when iOS 11 launches. When you create a Dropbox link for a HEIF or HEVC file, anyone can preview them on dropbox.com or through our mobile apps, regardless of device or operating system. We’ll also let you choose the photo format that works best for you. You’ll be able to set a default upload format—JPG for broader compatibility, or HEIF to preserve your original files and save space. You can find out more about using Dropbox with the new HEIF and HEVC formats in our help center. Along with the recent addition of preview support for Sketch files and a wider range of raw photos, these new iOS features will help you work more easily with the tools you use every day. Dropbox support for the Files app, HEIF photos, and HEVC video will be available when iOS 11 launches next week. You can download the updated Dropbox app from the App Store.
