If you’re anything like us, you have hundreds or thousands of files stored in Dropbox. (After all, it is home to 140 billion documents!) But not all of that content is relevant to you at any given moment; your 2013 tax return, for example, isn’t as top of mind as the presentation you’re working on for tomorrow’s meeting. That’s why we created Recents, a shortcut to those top-of-mind, need-it-now files. Your Recents page shows you all the files you've worked with recently, like docs you’ve added, edited, or moved. Launched first to iOS devices, Recents is rolling out today to
dropbox.com, and will be coming soon to our Android app. When Recents
premiered in May on iOS devices — and again when it was integrated into the Spotlight search for
iOS 9 last month — we saw that users were finding the files they needed significantly faster, and as a result, they were finding the Dropbox app even more useful. Why? Because you don’t need to click through your folder structure every time you want to pull up the file you need at that moment; you don’t even need to remember what folder you saved the file to. For one, that means you can embrace an unorganized Dropbox account. If you don’t have time to regularly sort all your files into their proper Dropbox folders, it’s okay — the files you’re most likely to need will be easy to find in Recents. This view also lets you easily pick up where you left off on a different device. For example, if you need to leave the office but aren’t quite finished with that presentation, save it to Dropbox from your work computer. It will be at the top of your Recents page on your tablet, so you can quickly open it and continue working on the train ride home. The same goes for travel docs you’ve saved to Dropbox — if you’re frequently pulling them up on your phone as you explore a new city, they’ll be at the top of your Recents list for easy access. And when you get home from your travels, all the photos that you’ve uploaded to Dropbox from your phone will be easy to find in your Recents page on the Dropbox website, so you can reminisce in full screen.
