The University of Manchester in the UK is one of the largest and most progressive educational institutes in the world, and today we're delighted to announce that it has deployed Dropbox Business to its staff. The University ran a large scale Secure External Collaboration project as part of its Cyber Security Programme, which was initiated to support the corporate "Manchester 2020" strategy.
The University wanted to replace existing ad hoc use of commercial file storage, with a secure and compliant collaboration service. "We deployed Dropbox Business to ensure that the University, its students, staff, research, and global partners can continue to learn, teach, and innovate truly world-class ideas securely without disruption," said Caroline Hargreaves from The University of Manchester’s IT Services division.
The University collaborates internationally on its research, so a secure space to share documentation and project outputs (for example, large experimental datasets) was needed. The University of Manchester currently has partnerships with institutes in Sao Paolo, Dubai, Shanghai, Singapore, and Hong Kong and they needed a platform that was easy to use that also offered a full suite of collaboration tools.
