We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve signed an agreement to acquire Command E, a universal search company.
The COVID-19 pandemic brought forward a permanent shift in the nature of knowledge work. For many of us, moving to remote or hybrid work means we’ve traded physical offices for digital screens. But just as we’ve come to depend on them the most, our digital spaces have grown more chaotic than ever, with our content and workflows scattered across an overwhelming number of files, apps, and tabs. In fact, research shows the average knowledge worker spends a stunning percentage of their time everyday searching for information. It could be argued that it’s harder to search your team’s knowledge than all of human knowledge.
The proliferation of web-based productivity tools has made our working world even more complex, and shined a spotlight on the need for a better way to organize all your content, across desktop and cloud. This is what we’ve been focused on and investing in over the last several years — our vision is to build one organized place for your content and all the workflows around it. Bringing the Command E team on board is an important step on that journey and will accelerate our efforts.
From its start, the Command E team recognized that more cloud-based software meant work is spread across numerous tools and apps, making it harder to find important content, fast. Developed on the premise of using keyboard shortcuts to find things quickly, they built a powerful unified search tool that helps users quickly access everything they need — from locating content across apps to launching important workflows, like joining a Zoom call in one click. As the productivity software ecosystem continues to grow, Command E provides a vital layer that brings everything together.
And Command E is a great fit for our team! We share the design philosophy that even the most complex products under the hood should be simple and easy-to-use, and we believe in maintaining an open ecosystem, so customers can use the tools they love, even if they aren’t our own. Our expertise in content management at scale, coupled with Command E’s unique capabilities of searching across cloud content, will help accelerate our product vision and bring us one step closer to achieving our mission of designing a more enlightened way of working.
