Dropbox and Microsoft team up to power business productivity

Published on November 04, 2014

More than 80,000 organizations around the world use Dropbox for Business to get work done. Most of those businesses also rely on Microsoft Office, the world's most widely used productivity suite. In fact, Dropbox is home to over 35 billion Office documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. So what happens when you combine those two powerful services? You get seamless, supercharged productivity tools across your whole team. That's why we're excited to announce that Dropbox and Microsoft are partnering together to make working with Dropbox and Office an even more seamless experience on all platforms. With this partnership, we're bringing the magic of the Dropbox and Office desktop experiences to mobile and the web. What does that mean for you? In short: boundless productivity. You'll be able to edit Office documents right from your Dropbox mobile app, and access your Dropbox from within your Office apps.

Specifically, you'll be able to:
  • Edit Office files directly from the Dropbox mobile app. Your changes will sync automatically across all your devices, so you can work anytime and anywhere.
  • Access Dropbox files from the Office mobile and web apps, so you'll always have your work right where you need it. You can save your new files to Dropbox right from Office apps, too.
  • Share new or edited files from within Office apps using the Dropbox sharing functionality, so there are no extra steps between finishing a document and sending it off to colleagues.
Dropbox for Business customers with Office 365 licenses will soon be able to take advantage of these new features. The mobile integrations on iOS and Android will be included in the next updates to the Office apps for phones (rolling out over the next few weeks), and the web integrations between the Dropbox website and Office Online will be available in the first half of 2015. We'll also be releasing a Dropbox app for Windows phone and tablet users in the coming months. We'll update this post when the new features are live, so check back soon!
